Project Details

Foxy's Football Islands is a free mobile football game by Frank's Football Studios, and this is its front door. I designed and built foxysfootballislands.com, the page every ad, social bio, and QR code points to: it sells the game in one scroll, and its /getapp link reads each visitor's phone and sends them straight to the right store, App Store or Google Play, with every hand-off counted in analytics. The whole site is a few hundred lines of hand-written code with no framework and no backend, and it ships itself: push a change and it is live in minutes.

Challenge

  • The game needed one front door. Ads, social bios, Discord, QR codes: everything the studio runs needs a single URL that presents the game properly on any device.
  • Two stores, zero thinking. Half the audience is on iPhone, half on Android, and every extra choice between a visitor and their store costs installs.
  • Trapped in the game's codebase. The page lived inside the game's Unity repository, so even a copy tweak was tangled up with game builds and could not ship on its own.
  • Platform paperwork had to live somewhere. App stores and Facebook require public privacy and terms pages, and Apple and Google each demand verification files on the domain before shared links can open the installed app directly.

Approach

A page that sells the game in one scroll

The page leads with the promise, "Build your island, rule the pitch", and puts the store buttons above the fold. Then it explains the game in plain words, shows real gameplay inside phone frames, and closes with one last "Ready to play?" push. It borrows the game's own art, colors, and chunky display type, so it feels like a preview of the game rather than a corporate site, and it holds up on the phones it is mostly read on.

/getapp is the only link the studio ever has to share. It reads the visitor's device and redirects iPhones to the App Store and Android phones to Google Play; desktops get both buttons. Every hand-off fires a Google Analytics event, so the path from click to store is measured, not guessed. The domain also carries Apple's and Google's deep-link verification files, so shared links can open straight into the installed app.

Its own repo, shipping itself

I split the page out of the game's Unity monorepo into its own repository on Firebase Hosting. GitHub Actions deploys every push and spins up a preview URL for each pull request, so copy and creative changes go live in minutes without waiting on a game build. The page itself is a few hundred lines of hand-written HTML, CSS, and JavaScript: no framework, no build step, nothing to break.

Results

  • One URL runs the whole funnel. Ads, bios, and QR codes all point at a single page, and /getapp gets each visitor to their store without a single decision on their part.
  • Every store click is measured. GA4 events on each hand-off connect the marketing I run for this game to what actually reaches the stores.
  • Website changes ship in minutes. An independent repo plus CI means updates go live on push, with a preview link per change, never blocked by game builds.
  • Store and platform requirements, handled. Legal pages, Facebook terms, a custom 404, social share cards, and verified deep links on both platforms.

This page is one piece of the growth engine I run for the game; the acquisition and retention story is in the Frank's Football Studios marketing case study.
